We want to thank everyone for your patience as we’ve spent a great deal of time studying the Transfer Station and Recycling Program to develop a more efficient traffic flow and cost-effective operation.
Through careful review, we identified and prioritized the top complaints and challenges, which helped us design a new one-way traffic flow that improves safety and efficiency for all users.
Why the Traffic Flow Changed
All vehicles must now turn right upon entering the facility. The new one-way system was implemented for several key reasons:
- Cutting in line – Vehicles with five or fewer bags were driving straight to the top without weighing in, cutting ahead of those waiting in line to dump.
- Traffic congestion – Vehicles turning around near the entrance created jams and safety hazards for pedestrians walking back to pay after dumping.
- Recycling access – Vehicles turning left to reach recycling dumpsters compounded the congestion.
Recycling Improvements
Two major recycling issues were identified:
- High hauling costs for dumpsters.
- Contamination from non-recyclable items, which caused rejected loads and defeated the purpose of recycling.
To solve this, we’ve installed a recycling compactor, which will significantly reduce the number of loads hauled and lower costs.
Recycling instructions:
- Follow the one-way traffic flow to the right
- Bypass the scale and proceed to the right to the compactor.
- Place recyclables loose (no bags) into the compactor bin.
- A sign listing acceptable recyclables will be posted.
- A camera allows the attendant to monitor contents being placed in the compactor and see when it needs to be compacted.
- After recycling, continue to the right and exit the facility.

Trash Drop-Off Procedures
- Five or fewer bags:
- Go right, bypass the scale, and stop at the scale house window.
- Stay in your vehicle and pay the attendant.
- The attendant will direct you to door #1 or door #2 to dump your bags.
- After unloading, proceed down the hill and exit straight out the gate.
- All other loads:
- Go right and pull onto the scale, making sure all axles are on the scale.
- Wait for the green light, then stop at the scale house window. Please stay in your vehicle.
- The attendant will collect your information and assign a door.
- Proceed to the top, turn around safely, and back into the assigned door.
- After dumping, return to the scale, wait for the green light, and then stay in your vehicle and pay the attendant before exiting.

Compost Area
Vehicles bringing limbs for compost or picking up compost material should go right and enter the compost area.
When finished, follow the one-way route around the scale and scale house to exit.
Facility Upgrades
The recent paving project has resolved several long-standing issues:
- Vehicles no longer need to back all the way up the hill — the drive is now full-width, with room to turn around at the top.
- This creates shorter backing distances and allows multiple vehicles to access doors at once, increasing efficiency.
- Standing water and mud have been eliminated for recycling. The area is now paved up to the compactor, with proper drainage installed.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we continue improving the Transfer Station and Recycling Program to make it safer, cleaner, and more efficient for everyone.
